Progress report of a trainee
Since the 1st of august 2006 I have been working as a trainee Specialist in Media and Information Services with specialisation in the field of information and documentation at a public broadcast and television corporation. I’m very pleased with the training course because the several sections in the area of documentation and archive offer a lot of diversity. At the broadcast archive my field of activity included formal classification of Compact Disks (new CDs are archived by cataloguing interpreter, title, length and more) as well as subject indexing of background music that is used in telecasts for example. Subject headings are assigned (e.g. bright or sad) as well as feelings and associations that describe the music (e.g. landscape or good mood) are listed.
Other partitions within my training course are television and press archives. I like dealing with different kinds of media like books, CDs, newspapers, magazines, videos and recordings that are being formally described or indexed. Afterwards, catalogued information is provided to the editors for their broadcast and television reports.
Depending on the employer it is possible to shorten the training course from three to two years. Because I have set my A-levels, I was able to take this opportunity.
