Interview with Christina, a trainee who shortened her training course:
(from June, 28th 2007)
1. In which field are you doing your specialization?
- Information and documentation.
2. Why did you shorten your training course?
- The duration of training was predetermined by the employer.
3. How many other trainees shortened the course with you?
- Another trainee with the same employer. I didn’t know the other trainees are being trained for three years.
I thought there were other trainees with A-level's at the college who are being trained for two years.
4. Was it difficult to catch up with all the subjects of the first year and find connections?
- Fortunately I “only” missed seven weeks of the first year at college. Catching up, I concentrated on the topics that were relevant for the intermediate examinations. It was a lot of stress especially since the exams took place only seven month after I started the training course.
5. Who supported you in your decision and learning?
- There was no decision. The duration of training was predetermined by the employer.
6. Would you do it again?
-Yes.
7. What advise would you give a trainee who would like to shorten the course?
- Catching up the missed time from the first year of training can be hard, especially when upcoming intermediate examinations take place shortly after the beginning of the training course - but it’s manageable.
There is also the possibility to shorten the training by moving the date of the final exams forward for about half a year. But I cannot imagine how stressful that might be.
Thank you!
